Health Workforce development department

The Health Workforce Development department is responsible for health workforce production and enhancement of quality of services provided to the population.

Key responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage clinical attachment programs, ensuring proper supervision and evaluation and certification processes.
  • Identify and analyze skills gaps within the healthcare system to strategically develop competency frameworks.
  • Implement clear and structured career paths for healthcare professionals to guide and motivate young health professionals.
  • Develop and coordinate residencies, fellowships, and health related education programs.
  • Develop and refine the health workforce development policies and standards to enhance quality and quantity of the healthcare workforce.
  • Ensure evidence-based decision-making and policy development through research.
  • Foster partnerships and secure grants to support workforce development initiatives, including identifying funding opportunities, and forging collaborations with different stakeholders in aim to advance the department’s mandate.
  • Promote Rwandan medical tourism as an education and treatment hub for the region, emphasizing academic-driven institutions with high care standards.
